North Carolina Highway Patrol Cracks Down On Aggressive Truck Drivers | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Citing an increase in serious truck accidents on North Carolina interstates, the North Carolina Highway Patrol (NCHP) is conducting TACT, Operation Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks. The NC Police hope that this crackdown on dangerous truck drivers will not only reduce the number of truck accidents on popular interstates but also increase awareness about truck safety issues for all drivers on North Carolina highways.

In association with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the NCHP will conduct the TACT operation beginning immediately and running through the summer to the month of September. They hope to fix some shocking truck accident numbers in their state: last year, 90 people were killed and 1,400 were seriously injured in almost 5,000 truck accidents on highways and interstates in North Carolina. In addition, NC police hope that the reduction in truck accidents along busy roads will cut down on traffic and congestion.

Police will be targeting aggressive and distracted truck drivers as well as those in other vehicles driving recklessly in the area of commercial trucks. Truck accidents, they said, are cause both by truck drivers and those who do not know how to drive appropriately around trucks.

NC Police reminded drivers to be aware of commercial truck blind spots, to not follow a big rig too closely, and to realize that semi trucks need more room and time to stop. All North Carolina drivers who see dangerous highway or interstate driving can call *HP on their cell phones to report unsafe motorists to police.
