Police Officer Receives Head Trauma in Virginia Hit-and-run Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Virginia Beach woman has been charged with felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence after allegedly causing a two-vehicle accident involving a police officer.

According to the Virginian-Pilot and other local news sources, a Virginia Beach police officer was responding to a call regarding shots being fired at just before two in the morning on Wednesday, March 14. As he drove down First Colonial Road toward Virginia Beach Boulevard, an oncoming vehicle turned into his vehicle and caused the crash.

Emergency responders converged on the scene, pulling the unconscious police officer from the wreck and rushing him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Though the as-of-yet unidentified officer suffered serious head trauma in the accident, he regained consciousness and began speaking in the hours after his arrival.

The woman who was allegedly at fault for the accident, 28-year-old Shakia Allen of Virginia Beach, left the scene of the accident and did not attempt to help the injured driver. She was apprehended not far from the crash scene, arrested, and charged with a first offense DUI and hit-and-run felony.
