Several Virginia Truck Accidents Stop Traffic This Week | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Three separate tractor-trailer accidents caused traffic jams and other problems across Virginia this week.

In Hillsville, Virginia, a trucker lost control of his tractor-trailer, striking a guardrail and causing the vehicle to overturn. The VA truck accident took place on Interstate 77 at Exit 14 as the truck driver was entering the southbound onramp. The truck’s cab fell onto the guardrail when the vehicle flipped, but the driver, 35-year-old Michael Sills, did not suffer any injuries. The guardrail was significantly damaged, and the crash caused a small fuel leak. Virginia State Police and the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash.

In Highland, Virginia, a tractor-trailer ran off of the road and struck power lines. A short distance away, a fire started in the crawl space of a residential home. Henrico County authorities are investigating whether the big-rig crash and power line damage are connected to the fire.

In Richmond, a tractor-trailer accident stalled traffic on I-95 near Maury Street at half past 3 a.m. on February 22. The traffic accident took place when a car ran off of the right side of the interstate, struck a guardrail, and then ran off the left side of the road, striking a wall. The vehicle came to a stop in the left lane, where it was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer. Two people in the car suffered injuries in the truck crash and were transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment. It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, so the accident is still under investigation.
