Tractor-Trailer Sets Off Chain-Reaction Crash In Hanover County, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A father and his young daughter were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries following a chain-reaction crash on I-95 in Hanover County, VA, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. An initial investigation by police has found that a tractor-trailer may have initiated the accident.

According to local Virginia news sources, the Virginia truck accident took place in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the Sliding Hill Road exit. When traffic slowed on the road, an 18-wheeler commercial truck failed to brake and slammed into a passenger vehicle from behind. The car in turn struck the vehicle in front of it, which in turn struck the vehicle in front of it. All in all, three cars, and SUV and a tractor-trailer were damaged in the crash.

The two people in the car that was hit by the truck were transported to VCU Medical Center. A 37-year-old father and his 8-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries but are expected to recover.

The truck driver, 55-year-old James Reedy of Bridgewater, Virginia, was charged with reckless driving in connection with the wreck.
