Two West Virginia Men Die In Fiery Head-On Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

According to West Virginia State Police, 34-year-old Steve Jordan of New Haven and 63-year-old Floyd Knapp of Letart died in a head-on collision on San Hill Road in Mason County.

Witnesses say that the WV car accident occurred when Jordan, driving an SUV, left his lane of the road and crossed the centerline, slamming into Knapp’s pickup truck head on. Jordan was allegedly driving over the speed limit while Knapp’s vehicle seemed to slow down significantly as Jordan’s SUV approached. The two cars struck, both catching on fire.

Two witnesses to the crash rushed to the vehicles and attempted to help. However, both cars were damaged to the point that the drivers could not be rescued. Witnesses then tried to pull the two cars apart so that the second would not catch fire, but the fire ultimately engulfed both vehicles. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Knapp did not appear to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and his truck did not have airbags. Jordan did appear to be wearing his seat belt and witnesses said his airbags did deploy on impact.

Oddly, Jordon’s wife Linda was involved in a serious car accident last week on Highway 2 in West Virginia.
