Nearly 100,000 people die every year due to preventable medical mistakes and this number is probably a conservative estimate since many hospitals don’t require reporting medical errors. My colleague wrote about a medical mistake made by a surgeon that wound up killing  a 76-year-old man in Chesterfield, VA. The victim had three daughters and a wife.
