West Virginia Man in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Car | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Charges are pending against several men after West Virginia resident Dwight Wade was killed in a Wetzel County traffic accident on a New Martinsville bridge last week.

According to West Virginia Police and local news sources, the Clarington man was struck when he parked his truck and walked into the roadway to remove a piece of junk that fell from a pickup truck in front of him.

After an initial investigation, police have determined that Roger Hartline was driving on the New Martinsville Bridge in Wetzel County when a piece of junk that he was transporting fell from his vehicle. Wade, who was driving behind the man, stopped to remove the dangerous object from the roadway. However, while he was removing the junk, driver Parks Hall struck Wade and left him with fatal injuries. Another driver, Orven Powell, then hit Wade’s car on the shoulder in an effort to avoid the initial collision.

The bridge was closed in both directions for several hours as police and other authorities responded to the scene, collected evidence, and cleared the three vehicles.

Hartline was cited for traveling with an unsecured load, while charges may still come for Hall and Powell. The crash is still under investigation.

Driving with an improperly secured load is extremely dangerous, not to mention that it is illegal in West Virginia.

The West Virginia wrongful death attorneys at Shapiro & Appleton& Duffan send their condolences to the friends and family of Dwight Wade.
