According to The Record Delta, a 20-year-old West Virginia Wesleyan College student died in a two-vehicle accident this week in Randolph County.
The West Virginia Police report that student Kaleb Michael Wilfong, a resident of Buckhannon, was pulling onto Routh 33 from Route 151 near Elkins when he failed to see an oncoming dump truck traveling east along the road. Police believe that Wilfong failed to yield the right of way and was t-boned by the dump truck. Emergency responders pronounced the young man dead at the scene of the crime and believe that he died on impact.
The dump truck, owned by Hardman Trucking, Inc., was filled with asphalt. The driver was not injured. After an initial investigation, authorities believe that the trucking company was following all regulations and meeting all standards at the time of the crash. The Lewis County trucking company has not commented on the fatal accident. At this time, no charges or citations have been issued, though the truck accident is still under investigation.
West Virginia Wesleyan College has released a statement regarding Wilfong’s tragic death and sends sympathy to the student’s friends and family. A memorial service will be held in Buckhannon this week.
