- Make sure to watch out for crosswinds in the areas that the trailer is being towed in. If possible, avoid these areas completely. Crosswinds can cause a trailer to fishtail and crash. Remember, it is not just the wind produced by nature that can cause fishtailing, but drafts that are created by passing tractor-trailers can also have the same effect.
