Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened at the intersection of East Virginia Avenue and North Mallory Street in Hampton, Virginia (VA), reports The Virginian Pilot.
It happened when the driver of a Nissan at the intersection of East Virginia Avenue and North Mallory Street attempted to cross over North Mallory. The car pulled right into the path of a motorcycle, which had the right-a-way, causing the motorcycle driver to slam on his brakes. But there was not enough time for him to stop and he struck the Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan, an 84-year-old Hampton woman, has been charged with one count of reckless driving.
Unfortunately, that elderly driver's inattention has cut short the life of a man, a man with a family. My deepest condolences go out to them. Already his wife is struggling with the consequences of this careless driver. Her post on the news story read:
"It was my husband who was killed in this accident and I am appalled by the entire mess, the police have told me nothing, it was the driver of the cars fault, the skid marks from the bike are in the road and none from the car, proof enough for me."
The most pressing question has to be - what caused the driver of the Nissan to cut of the motorcycle? Were they distracted or was the driver too elderly to drive? We have to wait and see.
