SUV Collision in Wilmington Critically Injures Four | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

North Kerr Avenue in Wilmington, NC was shut down in both directions between Farley Drive and Bavarian Lane when a vehicle accident occurred about 6 p.m. on October 28th.  The car crash happened when a Honda was headed west on Farley Drive and ran through a stop light at N Kerr Avenue and hitting a blue SUV heading north on Kerr.  The SUV ended up in a ditch, while the Honda was severely damaged on its front end.

So severe was the car’s damage that the three people inside had to be extricated by the emergency responders.  A man and a woman from each vehicle were immediately taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center after the crash. However, it is not entirely clear as to whether or not the driver of the Honda was hurt in the crash. It looks like they may be to blame for the vehicle crash. Nearby residents have mentioned that the 55 mph speed limit on N Kerr Avenue is excessive and have requested many times in the past that either a traffic light or a four-way stop needs to go in at that intersection.

A new study released by AAA’s Foundation for Traffic Safety (AAA) shows that 56% of fatal crashes are due to aggressive driving such as speeding, failing to yield, reckless, careless, or erratic driving, failure to obey traffic signals and making improper turns.  A driver’s attitude plays a major role in how safe they drive and overall road safety. It is always smart to drive cautiously and follow all rules and regulations of the road to avoid causing such traffic accidents. Unfortunately, safety is not always the top priority among drivers.
