It appeared the driver may have been attempting to avoid the police, because the lights on the SUV were turned off and he began driving faster when he saw a police cruiser. The latest information from WECT may explain why he acted in the manner. Video surveillance shows the car was going about 85 mph at the time of the accident, and the accident report includes evidence that the driver may have been under the influence of drugs. While the posted speed limit was not reported, the car crash occurred in a residential neighborhood with speed bumps, which usually have speed limits of not more than 25 mph.

The loss of these three lives is tragic, especially because it could have easily been prevented. Driving under the influence and speeding definitely carry penalties in North Carolina, but certainly not a penalty as harsh as losing your life and causing the death and injuries of three friends. We suggest that the families of the passengers in the car contact a North Carolina personal injury attorney to help sort out the details of this horrible accident and determine what course of action should be taken.

This car accident injury resource page created by an experienced, compassionate North Carolina car accident attorney provides some basic information on what to do if you or someone you know is injured in a car wreck.
