Richmond Police responded to the hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Maury Street and Perdue Avenue just before 7 pm on February 17, 2018. Finding and arresting the at-fault driver is essential to seeing justice done.

The deadly crash at the corner of Maury Street and Perdue Avenue also illustrates the danger of running a stop sign. According to section 46.2-821 of the Virginia Code,

The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection on a highway controlled by a stop sign shall, immediately before entering such intersection, stop at a clearly marked stop line, or, in the absence of a stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, in the absence of a marked crosswalk, stop at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway. My Virginia wrongful death attorney colleagues and I have seen too many people hit and hurt by drivers who ignored stop signs or red lights and by hit-and-run run drivers. Holding those negligent and reckless drivers accountable under law is important, but so is making them pay compensation and other damages to their victims. Should the person who caused the fatal collision in Richmond escape police, the deceased victim’s family could have recourse to filing claims under the uninsured motorist provisions of his or their own automobile insurance policy. Consulting with an experienced car crash lawyer will help them understand and exercise their legal options.
