Hotel Valet Driver Hits and Kills Woman in Richmond | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Josephine Stone was outside of the Hilton Garden Inn at 5th and Broad streets in Richmond, Virginia (VA), when her life came to an abrupt, tragic end. She was hit by a car being driven by a hotel valet. She was only 23 years old and a few days away from celebrating her second wedding anniversary.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the husband. Losing a wife is an experience I wish no man had to suffer. I don’t know what I would do if I lost my wife in a sudden accident like this. I do know I’d want to make sure the at-fault driver was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The exact details of what caused the valet to hit Stone remain unclear. Was the driver distracted? Were the hotel employee speeding? We only know charges are pending.

“She’s the love of my life,” John Stone told the Baltimore Sun. “I don’t know what I am going to do without her.”

One thing he might consider is speaking to a wrongful death attorney in Virginia about his legal options. The hotel itself is likely responsible for the actions of its employee if the employee was acting within the scope of his job. If it turns out the valet’s conduct was reckless or wanton, punitive damages also could be pursued in a wrongful death claim.
