According to the Daily Press and the Virginian-Pilot, a man was struck and killed in a Virginia Beach pedestrian accident on Lynnhaven Parkway while walking his dog near the intersection of Glen View Drive on Saturday morning. Virginia Beach Police report that 40-year-old Marcus Lawton, of Magnolia Chase, died at the scene of the pedestrian accident, which occurred at a few minutes after 7 am on September 3, 2011.

Lawton was hit by a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling west and driven by 24-year-old Ashley Crosby, who reportedly lost control of her car and drove off of the roadway before striking Lawton, a row of hedges, and finally a ditch.

Crosby received minor injuries in the crash. She stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with police. The dog was rushed by Virginia Beach Animal Control to a nearby veterinary hospital for treatment. Its current condition is unknown.

Investigators are attempting to discover what caused the fatal Virginia pedestrian accident and whether or not any citations or criminal charges are appropriate. It is currently unknown if factors such as speed, alcohol, reckless driving, distracted driving, or fatigue played a part in the crash.
