What is loss of consortium? | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Loss of consortium, which can also be referred to as loss of companionship or loss of society, is for the secondary victims of an accident. Spouses and children of a victim often suffer the loss of no longer having a wife, husband, mother, or father who can longer provide the comfort, love, companionship, guidance, emotional and physical needs any longer because of their injuries. A loss of consortium claim means that the victim and the claimant are no longer able to enjoy their relationship because of the injuries the victim has suffered.
