North Carolina police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who caused a multi-vehicle accident in Durham, NC. A 2012 black Ford Edge has heading north on Driver Street when it ran a red light, striking a Suzuki traveling east on Angier Avenue. The crash between the two vehicles caused a collision with a Cadillac traveling west on Angier Avenue. The Cadillac crashed into a building at the corner of the intersection.
Authorities report that the driver of the Edge fled the accident on foot. His SUV, a rental car, had license plates from New Jersey. Police say they are on the look out for a black man in his early 20s, approximately 5 feet 9 inches, weighing 145 to 160 pounds and wearing his hair in dreadlocks.
The drivers of the two other cars involved in the accident were hospitalized with critical injuries. We wish them a speedy, full recovery.
Our NC injury attorneys have experience and expertise fighting for justice for victims of hit and run accidents. Drivers who selfishly run red lights and then flee the scene of the accident deserve to be punished.
In this situation, if the at-fault driver is never found, the victims can still file a claim, but the victim would have to file the claim against their own insurance company, which pays claims through the uninsured motorist provision. The victim’s insurance company will take the place of the at-fault driver in the claim, and damages will be based on the extent of the injuries, amount of medical bills, time lost from work, and so on.
