The car driver's injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening. Thankfully, neither the infant who was secured in a car safety seat nor any of the four schoolchildren suffered injuries.

The bus operator told police she did not see the car before she hit it, which is a common explanation provided by drivers who cause right-hand turn accidents. It is also an unacceptable excuse. Any driver behind the wheel of a car, truck, bus, SUV or van has a duty to themselves and everyone else on the road to, at a minimum, look left, right, and left again before entering the intersection. Waiting to turn until one is absolutely sure the lanes to be crossed are clear is also essential.
As Carolina personal injury attorneys who have helped people injured in car crashes caused by public employees receive compensation, we urge the man hurt in this wreck to contact a lawyer who will work on his behalf to make sure the Currituck County Schools covers his medical bills and other losses.
