The victim of the car accident, Dusty Fowler, 34, of Smithfield, was killed when his vehicle ran off the road near mile-marker 97 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the state Highway Patrol said.
North Carolina State Troopers indicated that the car was traveling at a very high rate of speed when it struck an abandoned parked vehicle, then an embankment and finally coming to rest at a tree. All northbound lanes of I-95 were closed for awhile after the wreck.
Sad as it is when someone we love dies tragically and unexpected, there is usually a factor or factors that have contributed to a fatal car crash. In this case it appears to be speed.
