Just days after the emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York of a US Airways, a high school senior in North Carolina presented her science project: “Deflection Over Disaster; Metal Deflection Devices to Prevent Airplane Engine Destruction.”

Her solution to the problem which caused the US Airways aircraft disaster is a cone shaped metal device that can be placed over the front of an airplane engine to deflect aerial obstacles and hazards.  She said she hoped to find a mentor or engineer specialist to help her further develop her aircraft crash prevention invention.

At the time of the plane accident, which has now been made in to a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks, one of our attorneys spoke with a reporter from the newspaper about aircraft crashes and how they can be prevented by sound design principles and highly trained crew members.
