Posted on Oct 26, 2009The Gastonia Police Department reported that 26-year-old Johnetta McLean and 31-year-old Marcus Wakefield were driving home after a night at a Jamie Foxx concert and a visit to a club when Wakefield lost control of their Cadillac on Garrison Boulevard near the Vance Street intersection in North Carolina. The car ran off of the road and turned over in a creek. It is not known if either occupant was wearing a seat belt.
McLean was rushed to Gaston Memorial Hospital where she died from her serious car accident injuries. Wakefield was also treated at the hospital, but was also charged with his second DWI charge. Both had allegedly been drinking at the concert and club. His first DWI charge also included charges for resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.
The couple left behind three children, Ke'Avis McLean, 10, My'Yon Wakefield, 4, and Jamarcus Wakefild, 18 months. McLean's mother said that she does not blame her daughter's boyfriend for the fatal car accident and hopes he does not face more serious charges than those that have already been brought against him.
