My colleague, Rick Shapiro, recently wrote an article about his concern for the growing number of head-on collisions involving tractor-trailers. Head-on collisions are becoming more and more common as the number of driving distractions increases. Many times these accidents take the lives of both the at-fault driver and innocent motorists.
Sadly this was the case yesterday when a northbound tractor-trailer crossed the median and struck a southbound truck head-on near Smith Mountain, Virginia (VA), according to the Virginia State Police. Tragically, passenger compartments of both trucks caught fire with the drivers still trapped inside the cabs and they both perished in the crash on U.S. 220 South, about 3 miles south of Route 619.
