A late model Oldsmobile was driving on State Street in Bristol, Virginia, when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. He slammed into two parked cars, sending his vehicle airborne before it crashed in front of the Paramount Center for the Performing Arts.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, William Marcella, was killed. A person sitting in a parked van that was struck also was injured.
Marcella’s body is being examined by the medical examiner to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Virginia Injury Lawyer Perspective:
It is not known at this time what was the exact cause of this tragic accident. However, there is a strong possibility that drugs or alcohol may have been involved. According to the CDC, 10,228 people died in car crashes related to alcohol in 2010. This accounts for 1/3 of the traffic-related deaths in the US for that year. Also, drugs are responsible for about 18% of vehicle driver deaths. People who drink and drive are an extreme danger to those around them.
