Construction Starts at Location of Fatal Wreck at 4-Way Stop in Wake County, N.C. | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Crews planned to break ground Monday on a Wake Forest, North Carolina project to turn the intersection of Mitchell Mill, Jonesville and Peebles roads in eastern Wake County into a four-way stop, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Donald Johnson, 57, of Zebulon, was killed in a wreck at the intersection in September when a Knightdale High School student pulled out in front of him. Johnson’s family released a statement Sunday: “Unfortunately this change is too late for Donald. We hope and pray that the four-way stop will save someone else’s life.”

Stop signs and pavement markings will be added to Mitchell Mill Road. Motorists already have to stop on Jonesville and Peebles roads. DOT officials said that an investigation after the wreck yielded enough evidence, including crash history and traffic volume, to justify making the intersection a four-way stop.
