Distracted Driving Car Accident Leads to Two Deaths, One Serious Injury | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Ji Sheng Lu and Jing Lu were walking along Corsica Forest Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC). Jing Lu was pushing her 1-year-old son in a stroller. Suddenly, tragedy struck. A distracted teen driver hit and killed both Ji Sheng Lu and Jing Lu. The 1-year-old child survived, but suffered serious injuries. The child remains hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center, according to wistv.com.

Reports indicate the at-fault driver became distracted after something fell on the floor and the driver reached down to retrieve the item. Distracted driving is dangerous enough, but the driver here combined distraction with speeding to make the situation even more horrific. Reports indicate the at-fault driver was driving more than 20 miles over the speed limit (the driver was traveling 48 mph in a 25mph zone).

Immediately following this pedestrian car wreck, the at-fault driver was arrested at the scene and charged with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Lu family and we sincerely hope the 1-year-old boy is able to pull through. This is a heartbreaking accident and frustrating to read about since there’s a chance it could have been prevented if the at-fault driver had been more responsible and driven the speed limit.
