A news story out of Asheboro, North Carolina (NC), might make you reconsider what it means to be a hero. A North Carolina woman who stopped to assist a person who had lost control and slammed into a guardrail on U.S. 64 is fighting for her life after being hit by a pickup truck. The Good Samaritan had gotten out her own car shortly before being struck.
The injured woman was airlifted to Duke Medical Center with fractures to her arms and legs. Charges are pending for the driver of the pickup.
As North Carolina car accident victims' attorneys, we have seen the aftermath of many tragic accidents. But for something so terrible to have happen to someone who was performing a good deed is heartbreaking. We will keep this woman in our thoughts and wish her a full recovery.
Unfortunately, many people are injured or killed while dealing with car troubles or wrecks by the side of the highway. We must never underestimate the speed and size of passing vehicles when we venture onto a roadway by foot.
