A South Carolina judge approved a settlement Monday that would pay thousands of dollars to people injured when a train derailed two years and released a toxic cloud over the town of Graniteville.The preliminary settlement was reached by railroad owner Norfolk Southern and plaintiffs’ attorneys. On January sixth, 2005, a Norfolk Southern train veered off the main track and onto a spur, rear-ending a parked train whose crew failed to switch the tracks back to the main rail.
