Leash Laws May be Expanded in Suffolk, Virginia (VA) | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

My colleague Randy Appleton was disappointed to learn that residents in large areas of Suffolk, Virginia (VA), do not have to keep their dogs on leashes when they take their pets for walks or let them out of fenced yards. This loophole in animal control laws is a holdover from Suffolk’s rural past.  As Randy notes in his latest post to the Norfolk Injuryboard, however, the loophole needs to be closed. Dozens or fatalities and millions of serious injuries occur each year in the United States because pet owners do not properly train or restrain their pets. I am with Randy in asking the members of the Suffolk City Council to act quickly to expand leash laws.
