NC Motorcyclist Killed in Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Leland, NC man was killed after colliding with a van in Southport. James Osborne, 37, was driving his motorcycle north along NC 87 when a Ford minivan, heading south, drifted into his lane. Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and the driver of the van was taken to the hospital with injuries. She was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Our thoughts go out to Mr. Osborne’s family at this difficult time. Motorcycles are known to be dangerous vehicles, but in this incident, Mr. Osborne was doing everything right. There was no indication as to why the driver of the van drifted into oncoming traffic, but as a NC personal injury attorney, it shocks me that she could be so careless. Whether she was distracted or simply made a mistake, the consequences of her actions will forever affect a family left to pick up the pieces. They will have to recover from funeral and other burial expenses, loss of monetary support, loss of future income, loss of medical benefits, retirement benefits, and other benefits. On top of all this, the family must deal with the loss of companionship and affection, as well as other emotional benefits. Though the driver of the van may have been charged for her mistake, nothing can ever make up for the loss of a loved one.
