Orange County Man Dies in Crash I-40 and Not Discovered for Days | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A grisly discovery was made recently by a North Carolina Highway Patrol officer on a particular stretch of I-40 in Orange County, North Carolina. They observed that an interstate sign had been hit by a vehicle. After stopping her patrol car and taking a closer look the vehicle was discovered.

Upon further investigation, a car was notices at the bottom of the embankment that had overturned and had apparently been there for some time. The accident occurred around exit 259, along a more rural area of interstate 40. The driver of the car was likely killed in the crash, but an autopsy is being performed on the exact cause of death.

It has been shown in a recent study sponsored by Consumer Reports the following about interstate crashes:

  • 19 of 40 states experienced a significant increase in fatal crashes along with the FIRST speed limit increase on rural interstates.
  • 10 of 36 states experienced a significant increase in fatal crashes along with SECOND speed limit increase on rural interstates.
  • 6 of 31 states experienced a significant increase in fatal crashes along with the speed limit increase on urban interstates.
