Rail Accidents Involving Cars and Pedestrian Could Be Reduced With New Rules | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

In his latest post to our firm’s Railroad Accident/FELA Lawyers Blog, my colleague Rick Shapiro reports that all train companies will soon be required to post toll-free phone numbers at highway grade crossings, as well as at foot/bike path crossings. People who notice problems such as broken gates or vehicles stuck on tracks could call in the hazards, and then rail operators could alert the conductors, engineers and trackmen on trains approaching an unsafe crossing. With more than 9,000 accidents at train intersections each year, Rick notes, the new rules are need as one way to prevent deadly wrecks.
