Red Light Runner Causes Fatal Castle Hayne, NC Wreck | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A woman was killed in an accident in New Hanover County, North Carolina (NC), when a pickup truck driver coming off the I-140 exit onto Castle Hayne Road ran a red light and hit her car. The woman died instantly.

The at-fault driver told police he had just left his grandmother’s funeral and had been searching for a business address so he could get to a job interview when he missed the stop signal. The man was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and running a red light.

As a North Carolina wrongful death attorney, I’ve seen how accidents like this can leave the victim’s friends and family members devastated. At the very least, survivors can take comfort in knowing that the man responsible has been charged and will mostly pay for his mistake. Still, nothing can ever truly make up for the loss of a loved one.

Crashes like this should remind all drivers all drivers to slow down and pay more attention. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s determined that 762 deaths were caused by running red lights in 2008. It is also estimated that 165,000 pedestrians, passengers and other drivers are injured each year by red light runners .

If you or a family member has been involved in an accident that resulted in an injury or fatality, consider consulting with an NC personal injury attorney. We have the experience, knowledge and sensitivity to fight for you.
