What Happened

A collision between a tractor trailer and a pickup truck had deadly results a few miles outside of Pembroke, North Carolina (NC). The accident took place at the intersection of Chicken and Deep Branch roads. According to Highway Patrol the accident was caused when the driver of the rig failed to stop at the intersection. The tractor trailer entered the intersection from the north when it collided with the victim’s pickup truck headed west. The force of the impact flipped the pickup truck and forced the 18 wheeler off the road.  The 50-year-old driver of the pickup from Maxton, North Carolina (NC) was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger, his 43-year-old wife was seriously injured and taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center where she was initially treated before being transferred to another hospital. The North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

This is a very tragic accident, our thoughts are with the family members and we wish the wife a quick recovery. Accidents involving big rigs are almost always serious. When a tractor trailer collides with a vehicle there can be many causes, many of which go beyond poor driving. These reasons behind why a collision occurred are not a justification.  Often, they are preventable circumstances such as driver fatigue, driver inexperience, negligent maintenance, or not being able to stop in time just to name a few.

If you have been injured or a loved one has been killed in an accident that was caused due to the negligent actions of a truck driver, be sure that you contact an experienced North Carolina (NC) truck accident lawyer. The trucking industry is regulated by both federal and state governments and has legislation that differs from those of car accidents.  This is significant legally because an accident caused, even in part, by a violation of a law or regulation may lead to higher compensation for anyone injured in the accident. This was true for a previous client of ours who lost his life after he was rear ended by an 18 wheeler on the interstate. The trucker claimed to have not seen the car until the last second but, during litigation we found that his initial statement to the police was inaccurate. Through our investigation we established that the driver of the big rig violated several safety rules from the Virginia CDL Manual. In the end we were able to secure a sizable settlement for our client.
