Virginia Man Killed When Crossing Street | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

As children, we are taught to look both ways before we cross the street.  However, these days, we are often in such a rush that we forget to pay attention to many of the dangers around us.   On June 16th, a man was killed when he tried to cross Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach.  Although the pedestrian made it safely to the median after crossing one side, he was struck by an SUV as he tried to cross the other.  After being hit by the SUV, the injured individual died in the hospital.  Witnesses claim that the victim was more focused on the bus he was trying to catch than the traffic.  The driver of the SUV has yet to be faced with charges.

As a long time wrongful death lawyer in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA), I have seen so many sad situations where pedestrians get seriously injured or killed.  If you are in a crosswalk, the law gives you protection and the right of way.  If you walk out into traffic in the middle of the block, you are more likely to die and the automobile driver will likely have no legal responsibility, though they may have nightmares of hitting a pedestrian
