Head On Motorcycle Crash Injures One

A Boone, NC motorcyclist was airlifted to a Tennessee hospital after a dangerous crash. The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on U.S. 321, south of Bethel Rad. He motorcyclist was traveling at around 50 piles per hour, and crossed into the path of a Ford passenger vehicle. The vehicles collided head on. The crash sent the rider airborne. He was airlifted and taken to the Johnson City Medical Center. The driver of the car suffered wrist and neck pain, but did not go to the hospital. Charges are pending, state troopers say.

Our thoughts are with both the motorcyclist and the driver of the car. Until more details are released, we can only speculate as to why the motorcyclist crossed that center lane. What this accident does highlight is the potential for so much to go wrong in just moments. A road sign or another vehicle may have distracted this motorcyclist. He may have been driving while tired, or stressed. All of these factors can turn an afternoon ride on a sunny spring day into a deadly wreck.

The fact is, when a motorcycle is involved in a crash, the stakes are higher. The sheer size difference between a car and a motorcycle means the biker has a greater chance of being injured or killed. Drivers can do little to prevent accidents like this one, especially when a motorcycle crosses a center lane and goes head first into oncoming traffic.
