Michael and Jeanne Merrill, along with their three daughters, had just picked up dinner from Bertucci’s and were heading back to their home in Fairfax, Virginia (VA) on Fairfax County Parkway. What happened next was every driver’s worst nightmare – another vehicle hit the Merrill’s Honda Pilot sending both vehicles into the opposite lane followed by another collision with a car and a truck, according to the Washington Post.
Fortunately, the three children survived and sustained minor injuries. The parents were killed.
My deepest condolences go out to the Merrill’s friends and family, especially their young children (the oldest child is only 13). This was a terrible accident. Losing a loved one is never easy and these children will have to go on without the love and guidance of their parents.
The details of what exactly caused the accident are still unknown, but a thorough investigation needs to be conducted. We need to figure out how and why this other car smashed into the Merrill’s Pilot. All we know at the moment is the road was wet, but it wasn’t raining at the time of the accident.
