The unease and fear in Dan Dorsch’s voice is palpable. His last words were “I’m in, in a descent,” then nothing. Mr. Dorsch was the pilot of the Pilatus PC-12 which crashed in Raphine, Virginia (VA).
Four people died, including Mr. Dorsch.
The Federal Aviation Authority investigation revealed a portion of the plane panel broke off leading to a dramatic descent.
In the month of July, there were 156 U.S. airplane accidents. 49 people died in those accidents, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
As an injury lawyer, and a licensed pilot, it’s always tough to hear about these kinds of aviation accidents. As a pilot, theres an inherited risk while in flight. A part of the plane could break, or an engine could malfunction. It’s the love of flying which allows us to accept this risk and still continue to ascend into the sky.
I think Winston Churchill said it best – “The air is an extremely dangerous, jealous and exacting mistress. Once under the spell most lovers are faithful to the end, which is not always old age.”
